During its annual Democratic Design Days in Älmhult, IKEA announced a fresh and forward-thinking collaboration with Swedish designer Gustaf Westman, known for his bold, playful approach to interiors. This partnership marks a key moment in IKEA’s journey to reimagine how we celebrate, together or apart, in today’s fast-evolving world.
As part of a broader initiative exploring the theme of celebration across cultures and lifestyles, Westman brings his signature aesthetic to a new IKEA collection that aims to challenge tradition and inject a sense of expressive joy into everyday moments. Vibrant, youthful, and full of personality, his designs are made for a generation that values creativity, chosen family, and freedom of expression.

“For me, this is an opportunity to turn traditional holiday aesthetics on their heads by introducing a sense of playfulness and boldness,” says Westman. “This is my interpretation of holidays, it’s a new design for a new generation.”
The collaboration will spotlight one of three moods that reflect different ways of marking meaningful moments. Westman’s mood is the most expressive: unconventional shapes, unexpected colour combinations, and a sense of celebration that’s spontaneous, personal, and proudly non-traditional. At the heart of his approach is a universal truth: what matters most is who you’re with, not how it looks.

“One thing that remains the same when it comes to celebration is getting together with friends and family, regardless of how you define them,” he adds, grounding his boundary-pushing vision in something timeless. The full collection will be revealed in 2025, but this early preview confirms what many already suspected: IKEA’s collaboration with Gustaf Westman is set to be a standout moment, merging function, form, and feeling in a way only he can.
