WHOOP and Samuel Ross Expand PROJECT TERRAIN With Layer 2

WHOOP and British designer Samuel Ross MBE continue to explore the relationship between performance technology and design with the second instalment of PROJECT TERRAIN. Developed in collaboration with Ross’s design atelier SR_A, Layer 2 builds on the sold-out debut collection released in March 2026, introducing a new range of technical apparel, outerwear, accessories and WHOOP bands designed to adapt to changing environments.

Where the first collaboration took inspiration from dense cities and modern training grounds, the latest release looks towards the natural world. Textures, shifting conditions and the transition between urban spaces and open landscapes inform a collection that places material innovation and functional design at the centre.

From Urban Training Grounds to Natural Terrain

PROJECT TERRAIN Layer 2 builds on the idea that performance is not limited to sport or competition. Movement, recovery and adaptation are part of everyday life, and the collection reflects that broader understanding through garments intended to accommodate different activities and environments.

Under Ross’s creative direction, SR_A approaches technical clothing through architectural silhouettes and tactile materials. The emphasis on adaptability also extends to the collection’s relationship with WHOOP technology. As wearable devices become increasingly integrated into daily routines, PROJECT TERRAIN considers how technology can be incorporated into clothing without dictating its appearance or limiting how it is worn.

Layer 2 For Everyone

Layer 2 introduces a range of men’s and women’s apparel, outerwear and accessories, alongside two new bans designs for WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG. The collection explores how technical fabrics and precise construction can support movement across different training intensities.

Some of the best pieces include the NOMAD Technical Puffer, available in Solstice and Onyx colourways for €749. These outerwear pieces bring the collection’s focus on adaptable performance into a more substantial silhouette. The TERRAIN Fitted Tee is available in Onyx for €99 and offers a more streamlined option within the wider range.

The Atlas Band is available in Cinder and Vola for €99, reinforces the collaboration’s central idea: performance clothing should work across different aspects of life rather than exist solely within a training environment.

Rethinking Where Wearable Technology Belongs

The integration of WHOOP technology is central to the project’s identity. Through its Any-Wear technology, WHOOP enables compatible sensors to be worn in different positions beyond a conventional wristband.

Yi Ng, co-founder and CEO of SR_A, describes the collection as part of a wider exploration of how wearable technology can evolve alongside changing lifestyles. Following the sell-out of the first release, Layer 2 expands the concept into new garment categories, challenging the traditional boundaries between performance equipment and fashion.
