New Balance x Stone Island 1890 Introduces Two Technical Colourways

Stone Island and New Balance have officially revealed their collaboration on the New Balance 1890, introducing two distinct colourways as part of the wider Summer capsule collection. This release continues the long-running partnership between the two brands, where Stone Island’s material-led design is paired with New Balance’s growing emphasis on retro-futuristic running silhouettes.

The collaboration comes at a moment where the New Balance 1890 has become one of the brand’s most heavily spotlighted new models, following projects with Joe Freshgoods, Action Bronson and JJJJound.

The Grey and Tan Colourway

One of the standout versions in this pack is the lighter palette with shades of grey, tan and off-white. The sneaker combines mesh and ripstop textures with suede panelling and synthetic overlays, creating a multi-dimensional upper. Muted earthy tones dominate the silhouette. The design also incorporates reflective “teardrop” details across the forefoot, a feature highlighted by Stone Island as part of the technical construction of the sneaker. Underneath, the model utilises the original 2002 sole unit combined with ABZORB cushioning.

The Olive and Black Colourway

The second colourway follows a noticeably darker direction, combining olive green, charcoal and black tones with cream detailing and vivid green cushioning elements beneath the sole. Layered materials remain central to the design, with textured mesh, synthetic overlays and suede sections. Stone Island branding appears through the Compass logo on the tongue.

Football Culture

The 1890 release is part of a broader Stone Island and New Balance collection inspired by 1990s football culture. Alongside the footwear, the capsule includes apparel, accessories and football equipment. Stone Island material experimentation remains key throughout the collection, especially in the outerwear pieces constructed using Nylon Prismatico-TC fabric, which gives off a reflective and almost liquid-like effect.
