Nike SB x Air Max 95: A Sneak Peek into 2025’s Intra-Brand Collaboration

In an exciting development for sneakerheads and skateboarding enthusiasts alike, Nike SB, the skateboarding division of the renowned sportswear brand, is set to collaborate on the Air Max 95 for a unique intra-brand project. According to sneaker industry sources via Complex, this collaboration will debut as a quickstrike release next year. While an exact launch date remains under wraps, the anticipation is already building.

A Celebratory Year for the Air Max 95

The Air Max 95, an iconic silhouette in Nike’s arsenal, will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025. Nike has grand plans to mark this milestone with special editions and retros that stay true to the original design. Among the most eagerly awaited releases is the reissue of the classic “Neon” Nike Air Max 95, which will feature a big bubble treatment for the soles, reminiscent of the Nike Air Max 1 ’86 introduced in 2023. This blend of nostalgia and innovation is set to captivate long-time fans and new enthusiasts alike.

The Legacy of Nike SB

Nike SB is no stranger to reimagining classic models from other Nike divisions, transforming them into coveted skate shoes. The SB Dunk line, for instance, turned a basketball silhouette from the 1980s into a subculture phenomenon in the 2000s, thanks to its adaptability and collectible designs. More recently, in 2023, Nike SB collaborated with Jordan Brand to update the Air Jordan 4, tweaking it to enhance its skateability while maintaining its iconic look.

What to Expect from the SB Air Max 95

Sources indicate that Nike SB will employ a similar approach with the Air Max 95 as it did with the Air Jordan 4, balancing the shoe’s original aesthetics with skate-friendly modifications. Although the Air Max 95 does not have a deeply entrenched history in skateboarding, it has inspired skate footwear in the past. Notably, the DC Legacy, created for pro skaters Danny Way and Colin McCay in 1998, drew inspiration from the Air Max 95.

One memorable moment linking the Air Max 95 to skateboarding culture features pro skater Stevie Williams. In the late ’90s, Williams was photographed executing a high switch heelflip at Philadelphia’s Love Park, sporting the original “Neon” 95 colorway paired with a Green Bay Packers jersey. This image has become a celebrated snapshot in sneaker history, often circulating on social media and possibly influencing the design ethos of the upcoming SB Air Max 95.

Interestingly, the session at Love Park wasn’t particularly significant for Williams at the time. Reflecting on the moment in an October 2020 interview with Complex, he recalled, “I don’t even think I was really skating that day. I had came downtown with the green Air Maxes with the Reggie White jersey, just kicking it at Love.” Despite the casual nature of the day, the photograph has cemented itself as a legendary intersection of skateboarding and sneaker culture.

Looking Forward

As we edge closer to 2025, the excitement surrounding the Nike SB x Air Max 95 will continues to mount. With its blend of heritage, innovation, and cultural resonance, this project promises to be a standout in both the skateboarding and sneaker communities. While we await further details and a confirmed release date, one thing is certain: the Nike SB x Air Max 95 is set to be a highlight in the annals of sneaker history. Stay tuned for more updates as this thrilling collaboration unfolds.
