Aye, if you missed Vince Staples in Jayson Tatum’s latest Jordan sneaker ad, where have you been?! The Long Beach rapper stepped into his Mars Blackmon bag for a 25-second clip that dropped on Instagram and TikTok on Thursday (October 10), and trust me, it’s peak comedy with a heavy dose of sneaker culture.
In the ad, Vince plays the perfect hype man, doing his best Spike Lee impersonation while Tatum’s casually hooping in the background, rocking his fresh Tatum 3 signature Jordans. Staples wastes no time gettin’ on his job, pestering the Boston Celtics star:
“Ayo! It’s a shoe commercial, we gotta talk about the shoe,” Vince quips, fully embracing his inner sneakerhead as he tries to get Tatum to drop some knowledge on his new kicks.
And when Tatum gives him nothing but deadpan stares and shrugs? Vince comes back with, “Tell me about the foam – what’s the foam you were talking about earlier? Aye, look. I’m really not trying to bother you, dawg, but we gotta talk about the shoe. Talk about the tech benefits!”
But the cherry on top? After getting fully ignored by the Celtics forward, Tatum finally turns and deadpans: “Tech benefits?” Vince, done at this point, looks straight into the camera and drops a priceless, “Fuck the tech benefits!”
Peak Vince Staples energy. And the ad has even more sauce, as it wraps up with a slick snippet of JAY-Z and Nas’ “Success” from the American Gangster album. Talk about blending Hip Hop, hoops, and sneakers all in one.
The whole vibe pays homage to the iconic Michael Jordan x Spike Lee sneaker commercials from back in the day – where Spike carried over his basketball junkie character, Mars Blackmon, from She’s Gotta Have It. If you know, you know!
Now, about those kicks… The Jordan Tatum 3 is more than just another sneaker drop; it’s a blend of performance and storytelling. The “Welcome to the Garden” colourway, dropping October 10, comes with a bold floral pattern, representing Tatum’s personal journey of growth, both as an NBA star and a father. The sneaker’s design focuses on lightweight speed, featuring Nike’s TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) frame and an injected foam cage for that balance of stability and flexibility. They’ve really honed in on making it the perfect fit for explosive, agile players like Tatum. These kicks let you move, but keep you grounded, you feel me?
The Tatum 3 isn’t just functional, though – it’s a statement. The floral theme brings a fresh, non-traditional vibe that stands out from the usual sports-centric designs, making it a solid pick for both hoopers and sneakerheads who like a little extra flair. Plus, the release comes right off the back of Tatum and the Boston Celtics securing their 18th NBA championship, defeating the Mavericks 4-1. The timing couldn’t be better for these kicks to hit the streets.
If you’re looking to cop, you’ll wanna move fast – these will fly off shelves quicker than Tatum’s crossover.
