We popped into High Rollers Skate Store in Dublin the other day, and it was a reminder of why independent shops are the heart and soul of our scene. The staff were in the middle of sorting a return, but instead of making a fuss, they handled it with patience and generosity, gifting the customer a free tee for the inconvenience of traveling into the city. That kind of real human connection is rare in big retail. It’s not just about selling product here, it’s about looking after their community.
We stuck around to chat about a few upcoming releases, and walked out with something special: the Nike SB Air Max Ishod Premium ‘Silver Bullet’. A standout release that merges Nike SB and Air Max energy into one clean silhouette. Inspired by the iconic Air Max 97, the shoe featured Metallic Silver and Varsity Red, visible Air Max cushioning and was a must for Air Max day. It’s the first time Nike SB has officially marked Air Max Day, and it hits both on and off the board.

The reason we mention this is it went beyond the product, what really hits is the experience. Shopping independent, whether it’s for skate gear, sneakers, or streetwear, keeps the culture alive. Stores like High Rollers aren’t just stockists; they’re community hubs. They support local skaters, host events, give advice, and pass on knowledge you won’t find scrolling a big box site. They’re part of the fabric that holds scenes together. Every time you shop with an independent store, you’re investing in that culture. You’re helping real people stay in business. You’re choosing quality over quantity, experience over convenience, and community over corporate.
So yeah, supporting independents isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s the only way to make sure the things we love stay real.
