The Chuck Taylor spent decades moving far beyond its original purpose, becoming one of the most recognisable silhouettes in fashion and youth culture. Now, Converse is pushing that legacy somewhere completely different with the Chuck Taylor Plié, a new silhouette created with New York label Collina Strada.
Debuted during the New York Fashion Week on September 15, the Plié takes the familiar language of the Chuck and reshapes it though movement, femininity and self-expression. Developed in close partnership with Collina Strada founder Hillary Taymour, the new sneaker draws from the construction ot split-sole dance footwear, while Victorian references and deliberately imperfect elements give ig a distinctive fashion-led character.
From the Dance Studio to New York Fashion Week
The Plié takes its name and visual language from movement. Its lightweight construction uses a two-piece midsole, while asymmetrical squared toes give the silhouette a distinctive shape that breaks away from the traditional Chuck profile. Textured uppers add another layer finished with custom charms and frayed details.
Collina Strada helped rethink the proportions of the Converse classic. The result is a low-profile, sculptural sneaker designed to move naturally with the foot.
That sense of movement became central to its New York Fashion Week debut. Collina Strada presented its collection at Storm King on September 16, buildijg a wider narrative around freedom, transformation and self-expression. The Pilé appeared alongside draped silhouettes and intentionally imperfect styling, reinforcing the collection’s romantic yet undone aesthetic.
Global music icon Carly Rae Jepssn also wore a bespoke version of the Plié during a performance at the show.
A Chuck Taylor Without the Rules
The collaboration continues the relationship between Converse and Collina Strada, with both brands using the Plié to explore personal style outside conventional definitions. Its combination of dance-inspired construction, exaggerated proportions and handcrafted-looking details gives the iconic Chuck a completely different personality.
The Converse x Collina Strada Chuck Taylor Plié launches globally on December 3 through Converse.com, CollinaStrada.com, and select retail partners, priced at £130.
