Mizuno

Mizuno Sportstyle Honours Tokyo’s Underground With the Midnight Velocity Pack

There’s a special energy tied to the neon-lit streets of Tokyo after dark, an atmosphere shaped by motion and a generation of car culture that thrived beneath the surface. With the Midnight Velocity Pack, Mizuno Sportstyle taps directly into that world, reinterpreting the visual language of Japan’s ‘90s underground scene across two of its most recognisable sneaker silhouettes.

Spanning four distinct executions, the pack sees the Mizuno Wave Prophecy LS and Mizuno MXR reworked through a dual narrative of colours and textures.

Iridescence Innovation

The Midnight Velocity Pack focuses on material storytelling, built around transformation. Each sneaker is constructed with an open mesh upper, layered with synthetic panels that feature a lenticular, iridescent finish. The result is a shifting surface that reacts to light in motion, mirroring the way modified cars once caught reflections from Tokyo’s glowinh street signs, tunnels and highways.

Two palettes define the collection. On one side, copper-infused tones emerge through a combination like Black Sand, Autumn Sunset and warm metallics, all hues echoing the heat and grid of tuned engines and late-night street runs. On the otherc cooler purples and deep blues, like Indigo, Cattleya Orchid and Surf the Web, reflect the electric glow of neon signs.

Wave Prophecy LS: Made for Speed and Presence

The Wave Prophecy LS is the centre piece of the pack, and the more technical driven pair. Known for its sculptural sole unit and performance-driven DNA, the silhouette leans into Mizuno’s running heritage while also pushing a more expressive lifestyle look.

The iridescent overlays wrap around the sneaker’s fluid structure, amplifying the already dynamic form. The signature Infinity Wave sole unit remains intact.

MXR

Finishing off the pack is the MXR, a silhouette that leans into versatility. Compared to the Prophecy LS, the MXR offers a more grounded look. Its mesh base is similarly enhanced by the iridescent paneling, colourways such as Iron Gate, Black, Jasmine Green and Dress Blue add subtle flashes of colour against the darker base.

A Tribute To A Lost Era

The Velocity Pack pays homage to Japan’s underground car scene from the ‘90s. This era was a meeting point for different styles and perspectives all united by speed. From lowered suspensions and wide-body kits to the sound of tuned engines, it was a culture built on individuality and a shared love for tuned cars.
