Renowned British-Filipino designer Val Kristopher has unveiled his inaugural footwear brand, SOL3MATES, marking a significant milestone in his fashion career. Known for his innovative contributions to streetwear through brands like VK and Local Space, Kristopher now ventures into the footwear industry with the debut model, the 320s, from the brand’s new 3 Series lineup.
Introduction to the 320s: A New Chapter in Footwear Design
The 320s serves as the cornerstone of SOL3MATES’ 3 Series, focusing on premium low-top silhouettes. This model embodies Kristopher’s minimalist style, utilising high-quality materials to deliver both style and substance. As the first in the series, the 320s sets the tone for future releases, with additional models and series anticipated to follow.
Reflecting on this new venture, Kristopher stated, “The 320s are a reflection of my journey so far. It’s about crafting something that embodies the raw energy of streetwear while pushing boundaries in design and quality.”
From Collaborations to Independence: Kristopher’s Evolution
Kristopher’s previous collaborations include projects with industry giants like Nike, notably working on the Air Force 1 Utility. However, the 320s represents his first independently designed footwear release, signifying a pivotal shift towards creative autonomy.
Sean Anderson, General Manager of SOL3MATES, highlighted the challenges faced by independent brands in footwear production: “When we worked together at VK, ‘footwear’ was the top search term, but creating them as an independent brand is incredibly challenging. This is why SOL3MATES exists, to bring visions like Val Kristopher’s to life. The 320s is a full-circle moment.”
Innovative Features of the 320s
Crafted in Portugal, the 320s boasts a clean, versatile silhouette made from premium leather and advanced textiles. A notable feature is the embedded NFC chip, integrating the product into the digital era. This technology allows wearers and collectors to confirm authenticity, track secondary market activity, and unlock exclusive content and incentives through the SOL3MATES ecosystem.
The 320s will be released in multiple general-release colourways, with exclusive limited-edition versions planned for future drops.
Kristopher’s Role as Creative Director
As the Creative Director of SOL3MATES, Kristopher oversees the brand’s narrative and the full design direction of their in-house footwear collections. He is also instrumental in scouting and curating future collaborations with emerging creative talent, continuing his mission to push streetwear culture forward.

The 320s will be available globally through select retailers and digital platforms, poised to make a lasting impact on the future of modern footwear.
