Shohei Ohtani, one of baseball’s most prominent figures, is expanding his collaboration with New Balance by launching his first lifestyle sneaker, the New Balance 990v6.
This exclusive release is set for 17 March 2025 in Japan, accompanied by a special “Made For Shohei Ohtani” apparel capsule featuring three limited-edition pieces.
To commemorate the launch, New Balance is hosting a pop-up event in Shibuya, Tokyo, from 15 to 23 March. This event offers fans an immersive experience, including early access to the sneaker and apparel collection, insights into Ohtani’s new signature logo, and baseball-themed activities.
The timing of this release coincides with the MLB Tokyo Series, featuring matchups between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs, as well as two top Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) teams. This alignment underscores Ohtani’s influence beyond the baseball diamond, bridging sport and sneaker culture.
The sneaker is crafted from premium nubuck in dark teal, navy blue and white, with pre-aged touches underfoot. Ohtani’s signature logo appears on the insoles, complemented by standard New Balance branding on the tongue.
