Nike has joined forces with Berlin-based label PAN Records to deliver a strikingly unconventional take on the Air Max 180. Known for its avant-garde approach to sound and visual art, PAN brings that same boundary-pushing creativity to this minimalist, all-black sneaker. The result is an eerie yet elegant interpretation of one of Nike’s most distinctive Air Max models.
At first glance, the PAN Records x Nike Air Max 180 appears as a fully blacked-out silhouette, with a matte, crinkled synthetic overlay giving the upper a textured, almost weathered appearance.
The midsole and visible Air unit follow suit, creating a stealthy, monochrome style. In a bold departure from tradition, Nike has removed the Swoosh branding from the upper, allowing the design’s raw elements to take centre stage.
However, the real intrigue lies beneath the surface. A translucent outsole unveils an intricate graphic of Pan, the mythical half-goat deity associated with music and nature.
This hidden detail ties directly into PAN Records’ themes of duality and introspection, adding a conceptual depth rarely seen in sneaker collaborations.
Subtle finishing touches, including tonal stitching, an embossed “180” on the heel, and special-edition packaging with custom tissue paper featuring the Pan motif, further enhance the storytelling behind the design.
