Among the most intriguing unveilings at Virgil Abloh: The Codes exhibition in Paris is a never-before-seen Off-White™ Nike Crypshot. At first glance, it reads like a bold basketball or street sneaker, sprayed in striking red and white. Look closer, however, and you’ll spot the influence of Nike’s Tiempo football boots, the heritage model once worn by Ronaldinho, re-imagined through Abloh’s lens.
The Crypshot carries the signature Off-White details that defined his Nike era: the plastic zip-tie, Helvetica text in quotation marks, and industrialised elements that almost break the shoe down into coded parts.
Displayed as part of the Archive’s exhibition narrative, the Crypshot illustrates Abloh’s talent for merging high-function heritage with his own street-driven design language.
