The AFEW x Mizuno MXR feels like something unearthed. A piece of design pulled from a place that exists just far enough from our own world. A place that makes you curious. Think of an outer settlement somewhere off the main map, where homes are built snall before they rise high, and where the horizon always seems a bit too wide. A parellel world with the same sun, the same dust and the same human urge to build, adapt and improve.
The palette is closely resembles that world. Sun-worn, sandy tones that look like they have absorbed all the heat from the sun. Tans, ochres and browns resembling the desert. AFEW gave the MXR a twist, a custom toe box was created to make the front a bit more sturdier. The tongue is bespoke too, and the wrap-around quick-lace system feels practically for every day.
There’s a subtle branding on the midsole, the delicate bubbles across the heel are special too, not just for decoration, but for technical purposes. The Runbird, Mizuno’s logo sits perfectly on the lateral sides. Even the insoles are part of the storytelling. They’re printed with co-branded logos, tying it all together.
