Space has always captured the human imagination, a vast unknown that humbles us with its scale and wonder. One of the most profound miracles is light. With this in mind, Mizuno introduces two iterations of the MXR. The sneaker brings together a carefully balanced two-toned open mesh, overlaid with pearlescent TPU panelling that shifts with movement. Metallic anodised detailing elevate the form, while custom insoles bring the storytelling to life, with a beautiful gradient of the night’s sky.
The Colour of Natural Light
The first colourway takes its cues directly from the natural light phenomena of space. Its colours echo the shifting tones of aurorae and starlight, a quiet reminder of the beauty that happens when energy from the sun meets our atmosphere. The finish feels alive, flowing and unpredictable, much like light itself, never still and always moving. The iridescent touches shift with every angle, offering something new with every step.
The Machine of Discovery
The second colourway shifts perspective, moving away from the natural to the mechanical. Inspired by lights of spacecrafts and the precision of space stations, it celebrates the human drive to explore the unknown. Its finish recalls the glow of low-impact lighting and the sharp functionality of equipment used for patrols and sample collection, evoking a sense of modernity and progress. It is a nod to imagination and engineering, and how engineering and imagination make exploration possible.
It speaks to both the progress of technology and the human drive to push further into uncharted territory, from the earliest sketches of mythical space travel to the real-life crafts now patrolling orbit and collecting samples.
