HOKA has partnered with Japanese and lifestyle retailer BEAMS for their first collaboration, celebrating BEAMS’ 50th anniversary with a take on one of HOKA’s most recognisable silhouettes. The two labels reimagine the Bondi 7 through BEAMS’ design philosophy, and the collaboration blends HOKA’s performance heritage with Japanese craftsmanship, storytelling and the contemporary lifestyle aesthetic of the brand.
Long seen as one of HOKA’s flagship running shoes, the BONDI 7 became a favourite far beyond performance running thanks to its signature maximal cushioning and silhouette. For this collaboration, BEAMS’ transforms the model into a fashion-forwarded lifestyle sneaker while preserving the comfort and functionality that made the Bondi line so influential.
Inspired by the Calm of Japanese Zen Gardens
For this collaboration BEAMS looked towards traditional Japanese landscapes for their inspiration. The collaboration takes direct inspiration from the muted tones found within Japanese Zen gardens, translating the structured earth colours of karesansui dry landscape gardens into two camouflage colourways.
The natural palette also references the weathered timber textures seen throughout historic Japanese temples, creating a refined visual identity that feels contemporary and timeless. That resulted in a sneaker that balances technical performance with a subtle design that reflects BEAMS’ reputation.
Custom Bondi 7 Designed for Every Day
Although the collaboration retains the Bondi 7’s signature maximum-cushioning platform, BEAMS introduces several exclusive design updates that distinguish it from the standard model. The upper features a bespoke camouflage pattern created specifically for the project, with the names of both HOKA and BEAMS subtly integrated throughout the print.
These details reposition the Bondi 7 within lifestyle territory while still preserving the silhouette’s comfort-focused DNA. The oversized midsole remains unchanged, delivering the plush cushioning that has made the Bondi series one of HOKA’s most recognisable franchises.
According to BEAMS Men Casual Buyer Keits Kobayashi, the collaboration was designed to create a lifestyle proposition that moves beyond traditional sportswear, combining the Bondi 7’s technical foundation with BEAMS’ distinctive approach to American casual fashion.
Continuing HOKA’s Expansion Into Fashion Culture
For HOKA, the collaboration represents another important step in the brand’s evolution beyond performance running. Senior Director of Global Collaborations and Partnerships Thomas Cykana explained that Tokyo has long been an important city for HOKA to explore new directions across fashion, streetwear and experimental design.
Two Earth-Toned Colourways
The collaboration launches in two exclusive colourways: Chestnut / Black Bean and Turtledove / Tidal Foam. Both feature the custom camouflage graphic inspired by Japanese landscapes.
The Chestnut / Black Bean colourway pairs rich brown shades with deep black accent, taking cues from the weathered timber found in historic Japanese temples and the earthy textures of traditional dry landscape gardens. This darker palette gives the Bondi 7 a more rugged, utilitarian feel.
By contrast, the Turtledove / Tidal Foam colourway offers a lighter interpretation of the collaboration’s concept. Soft grey and off-white hues are balanced with subtle blue-green accents that evoke raked stone gardens, smooth river rocks and the calming atmosphere associated with Japanese Zen spaces. This resulted in a clean and understated execution of the Bondi 7.
Release Information
The HOKA x BEAMS Bondi 7 will first launch through BEAMS stores through BSAMS stores across Japan and Taiwan, alongside BEAMS Japan online store, on 7 August 2026. A wider global release follows on 14 August 2026, when both colourways will become available through HOKA and selected retail partners.
The collaboration will retail for £155 in the UK (€175 / CHF 195) and comes in the Chestnut / Black Bean and Turtledove / Tidal Foam colourways.
