Alpha Industries

Studio Ü x Alpha Industries: Remade by Hand

The Studio Ü x Alpha Industries partnership is different than previous Alpha Industries collabs. This cooperation feels like two worlds meeting to create something pure. Alpha, with decades of military-grade engineering and Studio Ü, a studio that treats reconstruction as a form of art. Together they came to rebuild into something new and special. At the centre of the project are deadstock MA-1 bombers and M-65 jackets. Jackets that were left in a storage. Studio Ü reworked those garments to create eight entirely new pieces. Four made from the MA-1 and four made from the M-65.

Nothing Was Wasted

Both jackets are loaded with history, that’s why Studio Ü had to treat them with respect. Each new silhouette started by pulling apart the original piece to understand its logic, then the materials were shifted into new arrangements. This idea was approached with zero waste in mind. Instead of simply throwing away leftover materials, linings, trims, zips, panels or labels, Studio Ü decided to turn them into a bew series of one-of-kind headwear, from bonnets to abstract beanies.

About Alpha Industries

Alpha Industries was founded in 1959 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the brand was born out of pure function, to design and manufacture high-performance jackets for the U.S. military. Built to withstand the harshest conditions, and constructed with military precision in mind.

Over the decades Alpha’s most recognisable designs, the MA-1 bomber jacket and the M-65 field jacket have moved past the military contracts. They moved into the hands of the general population, and were worn by many different subcultures. The jackets can be seen on punks, hip-hop artists and everyone in between.

About Studio Ü

Studio Ü on the other side of the collaboration can be found right in the middle of Soho’s creative pulse at Berwick Street. It is a location that perfectly mirros what the brand stands for, energy, experimentation and a refusal to stand in line. The British redesign studio has built its name by transforming deadstock and vintage garments into completely new silhouettes and they do this completely in-house. To make things even better, clients can bring in their own garments, pieces that they’ve loved, worn or simply don’t wear anymore and let Studio Ü do their magic to transform the garments.
