Action Bronson’s impact on New Balance continues to snowball, and this unreleased 1890 “Baklava” colourway might be one of the clearest distillations of his design philosophy yet. While most brands lean into minimalism for their high-tech runners, Bronson goes the opposite direction, celebrating chaos, colour, and energy. This 1890 fits that lineage instantly.
The upper blends icy blue mesh, dusty indigo overlays, and the kind of mint-turquoise “N” logo that jumps off the shoe the second you clock it. Instead of hiding the shoe’s structural lines, Bronson amplifies them. The welded white and grey streaks flowing along the forefoot look almost flame-like, aggressive but playful, giving the silhouette movement even when it’s standing still.
A lavender grid-mesh tongue and multi-tone laces layer even more visual noise into the mix. Yet somehow it all works: Bronson’s gift is making absurd combinations feel intentional. The heel counter switches things up with a black and silver stabiliser stamped “1890”, grounding the top half with a more performance-leaning finish. Then there’s the midsole, arguably the star of the pair. New Balance’s ABZORB cushioning sits on a violent hit of neon-red foam.
