nanamica and REGAL Shoe & Co. continue their long-running relationship with a new take on the classic plain-toe shoe, bringing traditional Japanese shoemaking together with the quiet functionality that has become central to nanamica. The new GORE-TEX Plain Toe Shoes S26FS082U keep the silhouette understated, but build a considerable amount of technology into the construction.
Available in Dark Navy and Black, the two versions take different approaches to the upper. The Navy model uses velour leather, giving the shoe a softer more textured appearance, while the Black version opts for smooth cow leather with a more restrained tonal finish. Both use leather from renowned Japanese tannery Sanyo Leather, adding a premium foundation to the design.
Classic Form, Hidden Function
The shoe uses an oblique plain-toe construction with closed lacing, drawing from the traditional Balmoral style. REGAL also uses the oblique from its performance-focused REGAL WALKER line, giving the silhouette a more generous toe box that allows the foot to move naturally. A lightweight and flexible stitch-down construction further seperates the shoe from a conventional formal leather shoe.
The real technical story sits beneath the surface. A GORE-TEX membrane provides waterproof protection while allowing moisture to escape, making the plain-toe shoe considerably more practical for everyday wear in unpredictable weather. nanamica has built a reputation around combining traditional-looking garments with hidden functionality, and the same philosophy carries through here.
Comfort Plays an Important Role
Comfort also plays a central role. An Ortholite® insole provides high shock absorption, while the outsole uses Vibram’s Mini Ripple Sole for a lightweight construction with durability and traction. Together, the elements give the shoe a more active foundation without compromising its classic appearance.
The S26FS082U also continues a relationship between nanamica and REGAL that has already produced several GORE-TEX footwear projects, including the brands’ previous plain-toe and chukka collaborations. Earlier releases similarly combined REGAL’s traditional shoemaking with waterproof GORE-TEX construction and performance-oriented soles.
