Nike SB Dunk Low “Som Tum”

Nike SB has long excelled at storytelling that rewards attention, and the SB Dunk Low “Som Tum” is a prime example of that philosophy at its most restrained. Rather than leaning on obvious graphics or loud colour blocking, this release builds its narrative through materials, textures and quiet symbolism rooted in Thai culture.

The upper takes inspiration from traditional hand-woven baskets commonly used throughout Thailand. Textured textiles appear across the toe and midfoot, while suede overlays mimic the look and feel of natural woven fibres. A calm beige palette anchors the design, with crimson-orange stitching and laces adding subtle movement without breaking the overall balance.

Branding choices feel especially thoughtful here. A metallic heel panel introduces contrast, finished with Nike text written in Thai script rather than standard English branding. Under the tongue, the story deepens. One patch shows rice steaming inside bamboo, while the other depicts papaya, herbs and spices in a mortar and pestle, a direct reference to Som Tum, Thailand’s iconic papaya salad and a staple of everyday life. Even underfoot, the narrative continues. A lotus flower graphic sits beneath the insole and Zoom Air unit, paired with details inspired by jasmine rice packaging.
