Mizuno Sportstyle and SWJP are exploring what it means to move freely between different environments with their collaborative take on the Wave MG4 LS. Built around the idea of “From City to Nature”, the two-part capsule connects the pace of urban life with the freedom of the outdoors, using one sneaker silhouette to tell a story that moves from Shibuya’s streets to the mountains.
The campaign follows the transition through photography and film, capturing the Wave MG4 LS in contrasting surroundings. The city sequence focuses on a predominantly black colourway, with the sneaker set against Shibuya’s dense streets and hard urban surfaces. The journey then moves into nature, where a blue version appears against a more open landscape. That contrast is deliberate: the colours represent two different settings, but both belong to the same story about moving between routines and outdoor adventures without changing the way you approach personal style.
From Japanese Exclusive to Global Release
The capsule also connects two different sides of the collaboration through availablity. The predominantly black and grey colourway, finished with Off-White and black details, is exclusive to Japan, while the Light Blue, Off-White and Red version will be available internationally. This distinction adds another layer to the campaign’s central theme, taking the idea of movement beyond physical locations and into the way products travel between markets and communities.
The globally available pair brings a lighter palette to. The Wave MG4 LS, with the blue providing the dominant colour and red adding contrast. Its Japanese-exclusive counterpart takes a way more understated approach, using Light Grey, Off-White and Black. Together, the two versions offer different interpretations of the same design, each reflecting a different point in the campaign’s journey while remaining part of a unified collection.
Mizuno Sportstyle Meets SWJP
At the heart of the collaboration sits the Wave MG4 LS SW, a reworking of Mizuno’s retro-inspired Wave MG4 LS through the creative lens of SWJP, Sean Wotherspoon Japan. The silhouette draws on Mizuno’s footwear development expertise while bringing SWJP’s culture-driven approach to design into the mix. Its upper combines denim, mesh and synthetic materials. An original check graphic and bespoke insoles add details specific to the partnership, giving the sneaker an extra identity.
The Wave MG4 LS itself revisits the design language of Mizuno’s 2000s running footwear, pairing oversized mesh and layered overlays with the brand’s Parallel Wave construction and U4ICX foam. These elements give the silhouette its distinctive retro-running characteristics while supporting cushioning and stability.
