Awake NY and Jordan Brand are back, and this time they’re turning their attention towards the Nike Air Jordan 6. Following the impact of last year’s Awake NY Air Jordan 5 collaboration, the New York brand moves onto the Air Jordan 6, bringing its approach to the silhouette in two colourways. Leading the pack is the Awake NY x Nike Air Jordan 6 “Playful Pink”.
The collaboration comes during the Air Jordan 6’s 35th anniversary year, giving Awake NY an especially significant reason to work with this silhouette. The name, “Bubblegum”, already tells much of the story Awake NY is successfully trying to tell. The sneaker uses several shades of pink across the upper, creating a split between the front and rear sections. Lighter pink tones dominate the toe and quarter, while the heel and collar become progressively more vivid, giving the back half of the sneaker a much louder presence. A medium pink suede forms the base, while lighter overlays add further separation between the individual panels.
One of the standout details come at the midfoot, where the familiar Air Jordan 6 plastic cage is reworked in a pink translucent finish. Awake NY’s signature script “A” logo is integrated into the uppermost window of the cage, continuing their branding that was featured prominently across the brand’s previous Air Jordan 5 collaboration. It is a small but important touch.
The pink treatment continues towards the rear, where the collar and heel move into stronger hot-pink tones. Across the upper, Infrared 23 provides some contrast, appearing on the lace lock, stitching and the spoiler-inspired heel detail. The heel also combined Nike Air and Awake NY branding.
