For the first time, ASICS and ISSEY MIYAKE are joining forces on a footwear collaboration, unveiling HYPER TAPING™︎ for the Spring Summer 2026 season. At the heart of the collaboration is a mutual respect built over decades of product development in Japan ASICS brings its founding philosophy, “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body”, supported by rigorous research at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science. ISSEY MIYAKE, through its Miyake Design Studio (MDS), contributes an experimental yet highly disciplined approach to form, material, and movement.
A Design Shaped by the Idea of Taping
First revealed during Paris Fashion Werk Men’s at the IM MEN Spring Summer 2026 show, HYPER TAPING™︎ takes the ASICS Stripes as a starting point. MDS reimagined the reimagined the iconic graphic through the concept of “taping”, taking inspiration from athletic taping techniques that stabilise the body and support natural movement. Thick, original elastic bands wrap around the foot and creates a visual line that contributes to support. Cushioned tongue wings and adjusted ankle contact points also refine comfort go ensure the taping becomes wearable.
Inspired by Wrestling
HYPER TAPING™︎ is the very first project to transform an ASICS wrestling shoe into a lifestyle sneaker. The outsole extends upward into the lower portion of the upper, to create a secure and locked-in feel that mimics the sensation of taping. This structure is inspired bt the gripping anatomy of a gecoo’s foot.
To make this specific design more suitable for daily use, ASICS and MDS developed a new foot-shaped mould by widening the traditionally narrow wrestling outsole. Underfoot, a responsive FLYTEFOAM PROPEL insole works alongside a soft Ortholite® sockliner, balancing cushioning and flexibility despite the shoe’s relatively thin sole profile.
Colourways
The upper mixes multiple leathers with mesh panels. Three colourways have been picked as a start, Black/Black, Gray/Gray and a more statement colour Green/Blue, the latter featuring a fluorescent green tone that nods to ISSEY MIYAKE’s design heritage.
