Paris, Milan, London, fashion weeks are usually all about what’s next. But sometimes the most interesting moments come from unlikely crossovers. ASICS SportStyle linking up with London jewellery house Completedwork is one of those. For its first-ever sneaker project, Anna Jewsbury’s studio takes the early-2000s GEL-KAYANO 20 and turns it like a piece of wearable art. It is part of ASICS’ Crafts for Mind iniative.
The base silhouette is still recognisable. The GEL-KAYANO 20 has all the hallmarks of its archive performance roots, layered mesh, structured overlays, visible GEL cushioning and an early-2010 runner shape. Completedworks shifts that tone fully. Hand-applied details, mismatched gem placements, pearlescent bow motifs and delicate floral touches interrupt the technical framework. Available in vlack and white, each pair plays with contrast.
The project also sits within ASICS’ broader Anima Sana in Corpore Sano philosophy. A Sound Mind in a Sound Body. Through the Crafts for Mind programme, a portion of proceeds supports Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s Community Programme, encouraging creativity as a pathway to mental wellbeing.
