The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle program marks its 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of empowering young patients at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to design their own sneakers. This remarkable initiative has inspired countless stories of resilience and creativity, giving the world a chance to witness the incredible talent of these young designers.
This year’s collection introduces six exceptional designers – Connor, Ja’Kai, Jillian, Quin, Sophia, and Tima—each with a unique sneaker that shares their personal journey. Through their designs, the community has an opportunity to connect with their inspiring stories and support their dreams.
One standout from the 2024 collection is the Air Jordan 6 “Doernbecher,” designed by Jillian Beagley, a liver transplant recipient who has transformed her gratitude and love for sports into a stunning sneaker. Diagnosed with a severe liver disease as an infant, Jillian underwent a life-saving transplant at age 11. Now thriving as a teen and state basketball champion, Jillian’s design reflects her resilience and passion for life.
